Jobs however do not come until level 30. Note: Guilds are spread among the Home Cities so if you can't find the Guild you are looking for, Airship access is not far away.
-Quick Tip: Nothing is shared between classes. Attribute points along with all other stats are separate. Only thing shared are Cross Class Skills.
Airship Lvl 15
-Quest Type: Main
-Quest Name: The Ul'Dahn/Lominsan/Gridanian Envoy (Depending on starting city)
-Requires: Level 15 in your Main Quest line

What does a Retainer allow me to do?
-Quick Tip: Since The Scions of the Seventh Dawn may be one of your first trips to the Horizon Aetheryte, make it a favorite destination, you will be coming back to Vesper Bay/Waking Sands throughout your Main Quest as well as some Side Quests. Doing so will allow for cheaper Teleport costs in the long term.

-Quest Type: Main
-Quest Name: Life, Materia and Everything
-Requires: Level 19 in Main Quest line.

Grand Company (GC) Lvl 20
-Quest Type: Main
-Quest Name: A Hero in the Making
-Requires: Level 20 in Main Quest Line
-Location: Waking Sands - Vesper Bay - West of Horizon Aetheryte - Western Thanalan
-Information: You will get to choose your Grand Company. This involves a visit to each city (will all be quest marked).
What is the difference in choice? Your Grand Company does not effect gear in any meaningful way. Each GC has something for everyone when it comes to gear. Big differences are Chocobo cosmetics and quest enemies. I also believe when you PVP (when they add it) you will be fighting for the side of your GC in one of the PVP game modes (unverified by me). Also as far as gear goes, GC gear is in no way going to be your end game gear with the current Rank cap. You can have a look at each GC's gear through the links provided below.

The quickest way to acquire them is to complete the Hunting Log for your Grand Company. Roughly 30 minutes if you're teleporting. Grinding Fates is also an option (will also net Fate rewards). Second quickest way if you don't mind using up your Leve Allowance are Grand Company Leves which can be found here. Note: Provided Leve locations are at Level for the quest (20).

Hawthorne Hut in the East Shroud for The Order of the Twin Adder
Camp Drybone in Eastern Thanalan for The Immortal Flames

-Quest Name: My Feisty Little Chocobo (Level 30)
-Requires:
-Location: Camp Tranquil - South Shroud - 17x 28y
-Quick tip: Suggest buying a stack of greens, never would want to be without your trusty steed!
Helpful Tips
-Setting Aetherytes as favorites locations cuts teleporting costs to that Aetheryte by half. You can have up to three favorites set.
-Typing "<pos>" without the quotes in chat will show your current location as a clickable link that will place a flag on the map of anyone who clicks it. An example would be "Need raise at <pos> please." which would show up as "Need raise at Western Thanalan (15,22) please."
-Once you a hire a Retainer they are tied to the city in which you hired them for the purposes of selling items on the Market Board. It may be a good idea to hire additional retainers spread out among the cities to take advantage of any current tax rates.
-If your Return ability is on cool down and you want a free Return to Home Point, get yourself killed. Take off your armor first if you want to avoid any repairs.
-If you exit the game via the Feather Bed at an Inn, upon logging back in, you will on a rare occasion find an item in the bed if you "examine the bed" based on the dream you had. One hour needs to pass in order for a dream to occur. Players may also have a Nightmare cutscene one time only pertaining to the coming of the seventh Umbral Era. Items reported have been crafting materials, food, crystals, and potions.

Retainers Lvl 17
-Quest Type: Main
-Quest Name: None

- Complete The Scions of the Seventh Dawn, which takes place after Into a Copper Hell (Copperbell Mines Dungeon). Both are Main Quests.
- Then Hire a Retainer at any Home City market strip, seek out the NPC with the title <Retainer Vocate>.
- Creating a Retainer allows you to make a brand new character from scratch, up to the character voice option. Loading current or past character creation data also possible.
- After creating the look, you will choose a personality, which effects the dialog of your Retainer. If you are unhappy with your choice (as the dialog options are shown) you can cancel and re-choose the personality to see the other dialog options provided.
- After personality you will then choose a nickname. If you cancel at this point however you will have to restart the hiring process, so make sure you are happy with the name you choose. Note: The nickname has to be unique for your server.
- You can summon your Retainer by using a Summoning Bell near any Retainer Vocate or inside a Inn Room.

Materia Creation Lvl 19, Materia Melding Lvl 19 & Materia Melding II Lvl 25
-Quest Type: Main
-Quest Name: Life, Materia and Everything
-Requires: Level 19 in Main Quest line.
-Location: Waking Sands - Vesper Bay - West of Horizon Aetheryte - Western Thanalan
-Information: This Main Quest takes you to the location where the Materia quests are. However, you do not need to complete this quest in order to gain access to the following Materia related quests below.
How do I Create Materia? Lvl 19
-Quest Type: Side
-Quest Name: Forging the Spirit
-Requires: Character Level 19
-Location: The Bonfire - Central Thanalan - 24x y13
-Information: Upon completion you will be able to create materia from your weapons, armors and tools with spiritbond of 100% by right clicking on the item and clicking on "Convert" or opening your Actions & Traits page and select Materia Assimilating in the General section. Details on spiritbonding and converting below.
- Spiritbond with gear increases through crafting, gathering, and battling while equipped.
- Spiritbond will not increase on an item that is at 0% durability.
- Spiritbond increases faster on High Quality (HQ) items, and items that have been melded with Materia.
(looking for exact numbers on this) - The type of Materia you create when converting an item is based on the item's intended class. For example if you were to convert an item suited for a Disciple of Magic, it is likely you will receive Materia suited for a caster.
- When converting, the item is permanently lost, so make sure your gear sets are accounted for.
How do I Meld Materia on Gear? Lvl 19
-Quest Type: Side
-Quest Name: Waking the Spirit (Level 19 Disciple of the Hand)
-Requires: 1) Completed Forging the Spirit. 2) Character Level 19 or Higher in Goldsmith, Weaver, Armorer, Leatherworker, Blacksmith, or Carpenter.
-Location: The Bonfire - Central Thanalan - 23x y14
-Information: Upon completion you will be able to meld Materia on gear with open Materia slots. To do so either right click the item and select "Meld" or open your Actions & Traits page and select Materia Melding from the General section. Details on Materia Melding below.
- To meld Materia to an item you must meet the Disciple of the Hand requirement listed under "Materia Melding" when looking at item details.
- Melding also requires a Catalyst named Carbonized Matter. The Grade of Carbonized matter needed for a particular Materia can be found under "Catalyst" when looking at the item details for that piece of Materia. Catalyst's can only be obtained while gathering with Botanist, Miner, and
Fisher, or through the Market Board. - If you do not have the proper Grade of Carbonized Matter in your inventory, a higher Grade will be used if available.
- Higher level Materia requires high level gear. This can be found while looking at the item details for the piece of Materia listed under "Base Item".
- When Melding multiple Materia of the same type to an item, any Materia after the first will begin to lose efficiency. For example Meldling a second Quicktongue III Materia will change the bonus from +6 to +5.
Advanced Materia Melding lvl 25
-Quest Type: Side
-Quest Name: Melding Materia Muchly
-Requires: 1) Completed Waking the Spirit. 2) Character Level 25 or higher in Goldsmith, Weaver, Armorer, Leatherworker, Blacksmith, or Carpenter.

-Information: Upon completion you will be able to attach Materia beyond what the item's open slots allow. To use Advanced Materia Melding II simply apply Materia like normal. This ability replaces your previous Materia Melding skill.
- All though this process is risky, you will not lose your item on a failed attempt, only the Materia used is lost on a failure.

- After joining GC speak to Company Commander to get the quest My Little Chocobo.
